Drinking excessive of any liquid while eating can dilute your hydrochloric acid, which is very necessary in the digestion of protein and the absorption of acid-based minerals such as calcium and iron. And wait until two hours after you have eaten to drink any more.

Most of us tend to be dehydrated, drinking extremely little water and too much coffee, tea and caffeinated fizzy drinks. These all are likely to dry us out, thanks to the diuretic properties of caffeine. If you wait to drink until you really feel thirsty, you have waited too long: dehydration starts long before we're conscious of it. So ensure that you drink minimum half your body weight in ounces throughout your day. And don't replace with another fluid, especially during the whole time you are on a body detox. It is water that your body requires. You may be surprised at how much better you feel when this need is finally met.

Water, Water, Everywhere . . .

I would not exactly tell you to avoid bottled water, if only because you have to make your detox as easy you can. But you should be aware that quality-control standards for bottled water are sometimes less rigorous than those for tap water.

'Mineral' waters are tested for thirteen chemicals and bacteria - less than a quarter as many materials as tap water. There're also no requirements, as there are for tap water, for mineral waters to be tested daily or even weekly. For 'spring' waters, there's no legislation at all.

So if you're truly concerned about high-quality water, your best bet is a home filtration system.
